Licensing Cortex Plus®

We are pleased to be sharing our Cortex Plus® system with the greater gaming community and can’t wait to see what you create. We have divided the licensing opportunity into two categories – For The Fans and For Publication - Official Licensed Product.

FOR THE FANS

Cortex For the Fans BadgeWe think it’s awesome when people appreciate what we do and create
Fan Material to share with the world for free. Some of you are so talented that we point to your work as our preferred choice. John Harper’s Leverage Rap Sheet is a great example. So go ahead and have at it! We have even designed a Cortex Plus Fan Logo for you. Rest assured, there’s no cost to you to create Fan Material. You don’t even need to ask for our approval. We do ask you keep us posted when your material goes live. We would like to help promote your Fan Material with a link on our website.

In creating Fan Material you are agreeing to the following:

Terms and Conditions

1. Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. (“MWP”) grants to the licensee the non-exclusive, non-assignable license to reference the Cortex Plus Game System® in their game, adventure, supplement, sourcebook, or other product (“Fan Material”).

2. The licensee agrees to prominently feature the “Cortex Plus For the Fans” logo on the front of the Fan Material packaging, manual, handout, download, web landing page, or other initial page or front display. The PNG is available for download here: Cortex Plus For the Fans Logo

3. The title of Fan Material may not include: Cortex Plus, Cortex, C Plus, C+, or the name of any product published by MWP.

4. Fan Material must have the following notice in a legible format and in a conspicuous location, preferably on the cover, front matter, home page and or copyright page: “This game material references the Cortex Plus® game system, available from Margaret Weis Productions at www.margaretweis.com. Cortex® and Cortex Plus® and all associated logos and trademarks are solely owned by Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. and are used with permission. Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. makes no representation or warranty as to the quality, viability, or suitability of the purpose of this product.”

5. Licensee indemnifies MWP, other licensees of this property, their officers, employees, agents, licensees, successors and assigns, and holds them harmless against all loss, damage, injury, and expense, including reasonable attorney’s fees, from any breach of this Agreement.

6. The licensee agrees not to reproduce material from the Cortex Plus Hacker’s Guide, The Cortex Plus Role Playing Game or any other copyrighted work created by MWP without the express written consent of MWP and/or the copyright holder.

7. MWP reserves all intellectual property rights to Cortex and Cortex Plus, including, but not limited to, all copyrights, trademarks, hobby game, publishing, entertainment, licensing and merchandising rights.

8. MWP reserves all rights to its properties and products and the intellectual property incorporated therein, including those used as examples or illustrations in any MWP game product, promotional material, its website and/or published works.

9. The licensee agrees not to charge for the Fan Material in any way, shape, or form.

10. MWP may issue updates and/or revisions to this license for Fan Material without prior notice. Licensee will conform in all respects to the updated or revised terms of this License.

11. MWP has no obligation to provide licensee with any kind of maintenance or support in relation to the license.

12. MWP reserves the right to revoke or alter any aspect of this license for Fan Material as it deems necessary.

Have questions? No worries. Just drop Christi a line. We’re here to help.

FOR PUBLICATION - OFFICIAL LICENSED PRODUCT
Cortex Official License BadgeIf you want to monetize what you create using Cortex Plus, we need to hear from you. We try to keep it simple. The first step is to Contact Us with your base pitch. We’ll respond and start things rolling in email. From this point, think of what you submit as three distinct elements and try to remember that more is not necessarily more.

First, put together a one to two page synopsis of what you want to do and your plan for execution. Spend some time on this – how you present yourself and/or your company is indicative of the quality of product you will produce and will weigh heavily in our decision-making process.

Second, we want impressive production values as well as great content. This means super art/illustration, great packaging and a professional design/layout matter to us. Providing the names of the people attached to your project as well as sample art (even if it’s stock) and layout are encouraged.

Third, please provide us with some actual sample text. This will give us the confidence you can write, but also that you understand Cortex Plus.

We have good news for you. The first piece of which is that there is no fee for this license! The second is that once we approve your pitch and the License Agreement is signed, the license is granted. We don’t require you to submit anything else for approval as long as you abide by the terms of the license (text included below) and that you don’t stray from what you originally proposed.

Keep in Mind

It’s a non-starter to pitch us anything that involves graphic sex or violence … especially against or with children. Do not attempt to use our product to push your own agendas especially if race, religion or politics are involved. Be smart – if you’re offending a large segment of the population it’s going to be offensive to us and the license will not be granted.

Keep us posted through our Forums on what you’re doing and when your product goes live. We encourage you to link to your product in the Forums, but also to let us know when you go live. We’ll be creating a page on our site that includes all licenses granted with links to your website. And although not mandatory, we’d love a final copy of what you create … PDF is fine. If we’re fans, we’re likely to help spread the word and talk about your success!

The License

1. Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. (“MWP”) grants to the licensee the non-exclusive, non-assignable license to reference the Cortex Plus Game System® in their game, adventure, supplement, sourcebook, or other product (“Licensed Product”).

2. The licensee agrees to prominently feature the “Cortex Plus Licensed Product” logo on the front of the Licensed Product packaging, manual, handout, download, web landing page, or other initial page or front display. Grab your PNG here: Cortex Plus Official Licensed Product Logo

3. The title of Licensed Product may not include Cortex Plus, Cortex, C Plus, C+, or the name of any product published by MWP.

4. The licensee agrees to place the following notice in a legible format and in a conspicuous location, preferably on the cover, front matter, home page and or copyright page of the Licensed Product. “This game material references the Cortex Plus® game system, available from Margaret Weis Products at www.margaretweis.com.

5. The licensee agrees to include a full-page ad for MWP in its final Licensed Product. The ad may be anywhere within the product, but preferably either within the front five pages or back matter of the Licensed Product. If the ad is not one provided by MWP, licensee must submit its proposed ad to MWP for approval.

6. The licensee agrees to sell its final Licensed Product via DriveThruRPG as one of its distribution options. The Licensed Product must be available on DriveThruRPG and launch simultaneously with your Licensed Product.

7. Licensee indemnifies MWP, other licensees of this property, their officers, employees, agents, licensees, successors and assigns, and holds them harmless against all loss, damage, injury, and expense, including reasonable attorney’s fees, from any breach of this Agreement.

8. The licensee agrees not to reproduce material from the Cortex Plus Hacker’s Guide, The Cortex Plus Role Playing Game or any other copyrighted work created by MWP without the express written consent of MWP and/or the copyright holder.

9. MWP reserves all intellectual property rights to Cortex and Cortex Plus, including, but not limited to, all copyrights, trademarks, hobby game, publishing, entertainment, licensing and merchandising rights.

10. MWP reserves all rights to its properties and products and the intellectual property incorporated therein, including those used as examples or illustrations in any MWP game product, promotional material, its website and/or published works.

11. MWP may issue updates and/or revisions to this license without prior notice. Licensee will conform in all respects to the updated or revised terms of this License.

12. MWP has no obligation to provide licensee with any kind of maintenance or support in relation to the license.

13. MWP reserves the right to revoke or alter any aspect of this license as it deems necessary.

And that’s it – other than the typical signature blocks that will be incorporated into the final license agreement for execution. Again, if you have any questions, just give us a shout.

Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

With millions of websites running on Joomla, the software is used by individuals, small & medium-sized businesses, and large organizations worldwide to easily create & build a variety of websites & web-enabled applications.

What Joomla! can do?

Joomla is used all over the world to power Web sites of all shapes and sizes. For example:

  • Corporate Web sites or portals
  • Corporate intranets and extranets
  • Online magazines, newspapers, and publications
  • E-commerce and online reservations
  • Government applications
  • Small business Web sites
  • Non-profit and organizational Web sites
  • Community-based portals
  • School and church Web sites
  • Personal or family homepages

Site and Administrator

Your site actually has two separate sites. The site (also called the front end) is what visitors to your site will see. The administrator (also called the back end) is only used by people managing your site. You can access the administrator by clicking the "Site Administrator" link on the "This Site" menu or by adding /administrator to the end of you domain name.

Log in to the administrator using the username and password created during the installation of Joomla.

Learn More

There is much more to learn about how to use Joomla! to create the web site you envision. You can learn much more at the Joomla! documentation site and on the Joomla! forums.

Preset Styles

May 10 2013

The Style Settings panel in the Gantry based theme administration interface provides several options for configuring the main built in stylistic aspects of the template.

Style

Gantry also provides the ability for you to create your own custom presets based on any parameter in the theme administrator. You should determine which parameters you wish to configure to be a part of the presets.

Assigning a Style

With Gantry, the ability to assign a certain style to an individual page has never been easier and/or more efficient. Just follow these simple steps:

  • Go to Extensions → Template Manager → rt_corvus → Assignments → *Menu Item*
  • Select your preset from Show Presets, configure and save.

After setting your defaults to the desired values, select the Menu Items button and choose the menu item you wish to modify the parameters for. You will then see a series of checkboxes on the left of all the supported parameters.

Select the checkbox next to the parameter you wish to modify, it will then become active, and you can modify as you wish. Clicking “Save” in the toolbar will then save this configuration.
